Are you talking about inversion boots maybe? I’ve never heard of an inversion _table_, but it wouldn’t surprize me to turn on the tube and see some hasbeen celebrity endorsing one in an hour-long infomercial.

I have recently (well, seven months ago) moved into a desk job and have discovered two things.

1. The urge to snack is irresistable, compounding the already ugly battle of the bulge.

2. My neck & back had lodged formal complaints against my policy on posture. I found this cleared up when I forced myself to sit upright with a tight curvature of the spine forward. By no means should you slouch back or allow your backbone to bend outward (resulting in a forward shoulder-slouch). I was also helped with the use of my special praying mantis style ergo chair which I talked about in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=25452) thread.

Since then, sitting upright with correct posture has become 2nd nature and the pain has subsided. I hope this helps.
