I still have phantom emails going out, even after the Lavasoft/adaware fiasco … I emailed their tech support team with the message below but it just bounced back undelivered.
"I have just used AdAware (thank you) for the first time and put these two files into a back-up.
Deleting:Alexa,1,HKEY_CURRENT_USER,2,software\microsoft\internet
explorer\explorer bars{30d02401-6a81-11d0-8274-00c04fd5ae38},
Deleting:Alexa,1,HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,2,software\microsoft\internet
explorer\extensions{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a},
Could you confirm that these should be deleted permanently please or should they be restored, and put on the ignore list?
If they should be restored I don’t know how to do it because they are in a ‘my documents’ folder, not within your program display area, and my computer doesn’t know how to open them!
I’m sorry to be a pain, I am very very green at all of this … I’ve only had a computer for a couple of months. I really would appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance …"
So now I am stuck with a couple of files in a backup I can’t get into, and I don’t know whether they are deleted or not coz the find function in the registry can not find them there but one of the log files I saw said it couldn’t delete one of them. And I don’t know who is STILL sending messages back to the mothership!
Alexa (linked to amazon, by the way), has a very interesting privacy policy which frightened the pants off me, it appears it can almost follow you to the toilet! Anybody concerned about having their movements tracked and information gathered without your say-so really should go and have a look at this Alexa stuff.
Please, please, please can anyone suggest anything else?
