You can take the culture war out of the state constitution, but you can’t take the state constitution out of the culture war?
Not to speak for Spavined, but IIRC, he is an attorney practicing in Iowa. The biggest thing in Iowa law circles for about the past year and a half or so, maybe even longer, is the right wing’s attacks on judicial integrity and independence. The fact that the right actually succeeded in booting off three very good judges simply because they didn’t like a ruling on political (and dislike for gays) grounds is a blatant attack on the judiciary. While there is certainly some hyperbole in his post, I think the entire issue of the rights’ attacks on judicial independence and integrity is a huge deal, especially for lawyers.
Just a thought here - tossing it out:
Is it possible that the GOP leadership is letting these idiots hang themselves? Letting 'em run hard and fast until they hit the end, allowing the leadership to claim ‘clean hands’ in these nutjob’s political demise?
A long shot, I know, but would be a satisfying one if true.
