I don’t think the Republicans rallying around nutcases has anything to do with their gender. Republicans are equal-opportunity nutcase supporters.
I think my favorite thing to come out of the whole Iowa Straw Poll is that picture of Michele Bachmann eating a corn dog. I believe that this is the origin: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tobyharnden/100100848/fried-food-and-retail-politics-at-the-iowa-state-fair/
Pawlenty drops out. I give him credit for being able to read the writing on the wall. Double bonus- we’ll never again hear Chris Matthews say “Good ‘n’ Pawlenty” which for reasons known only to him, he finds absolutely hilarious.
Obviously, a skilled politician
Someone at Newsweek is kicking themselves for missing that one.
Given who she’s married to, that’s probably her first time with such a massive wiener in her mouth.
Marcus may have given her some pointers on how to handle it.
That’s cold, brother, cold!
I thought he’d tried to hang on a little bit longer, but I guess the money must be really drying up for him. I’m guessing his staff told him they were done working for free.
In that pic she shows zero enthusiasm for what she’s doing. Metaphor aside, it’s a corn dog - at least look happy.
If you read as far as the last line of the article, she submitted to him in giving him the first bite of it.
I love the look on the guy down in the corner of the picture - he is definitely enjoying it.
This should be trotted out by all of her opponents - sorta like the Dukakis in the tank pics.
McCotter is my representative and we barely hear anything about him. He runs for election and then disappears.
He made a very good speech about saving the American auto industry once.
There’s also a thread about him right here in this forum:
Pawlenty is officially out. That didn’t take long.
If I cared little more I’d look up the results and see what the worst an eventual nominee and/or presidential wineries did in this poll.
Anybody know how much support Rick Perry got?
Or Rick Parry?
In 2007 John McCain finished 10th with 0.7% of the vote, according to Wikipedia.
He lost the Iowa Caucus though. Huckabee came in 2nd in the strawpoll in '07, and won the Caucus. So it does a decent job of predicting who will win Iowa, if not the actual nomination.
The results were extraordinary:
**Nutters and fringies **
1 Michele Bachmann 4,823 28.6%
2 Ron Paul 4,671 27.7%
4 Rick Santorum 1,657 9.8%
5 Herman Cain 1,456 8.6%
Scattering 162 1.0%
Sum: 75.7%
Establishment Types, Neurotypicals and Wannabees
3 Tim Pawlenty 2,293 13.6%
6 Rick Perry (write-in) 2718 4.3%
7 Mitt Romney 3567 3.4%
8 Newt Gingrich 385 2.3%
9 Jon Huntsman 69 0.4%
10 Thaddeus McCotter 35 0.2%
Sum: 24.2%
Total 16,892 100%
Three-quarters of the represented Republican base are loons. And the one person to drop out came in first on team sanity.
In other news, I couldn’t find out how many voted for Colbert’s Rick Parry. I know this is a Republican fundraiser, but I understand that the Iowa Secretary of State plays a role in the proceedings.
