Iowa Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban

The Swedes moved to the Dakotas, where they feud with the Norwegians in Minnesota. Le plus ce change, le plus c’est la meme chose.

But this campaign to unseat the judges that ruled in accordance with the state constitution – that should be exposed for the blatant bigotry it is.

I assume it is like Tennessee - appoint then up for re-appointment by popular vote? In which case, my language was imprecise. I’ll change it to “that’s why I am not a huge fan of using popular voting to determine whether judges keep their positions.”

As the article says:

Actually, IF a majority of the judges are unseated and IF their replacements are all anti-gay marriage and IF a case comes up through the Iowa court system that challenges the earlier ruling, they could reverse it. But that seems very unlikely.

Iowa voters have, alas, taken the first step: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/us/politics/04judges.html?scp=1&sq=plaats%20moines&st=cse
