Sigh

I’m having problems getting iTunes to update songs on my iPhone. I only use the phone as an mp3 player. (a friend can get me an iPhone free) So since my iPod died and they discontinued the one I like, I use the phone.

So I got a new PC and I moved all my files myself. Now when I plug in the phone it asks if I want to dump everything on the phone because Jobs forbid I own more than on PC. So I say 'yes go ahead, erase all the songs. Then I say 'add these songs. It says, “there is no room for songs”. I look at the graph that shows how much room is available and it shows plenty of room available. When I unplug the phone, all my songs are still on there.
I just need ONE song on the phone!
Any suggestions?

Check “manually manage music and videos” and then you can just drag music to the iPhone from any computer that you connect it to, if I’m not mistaken.

Sometimes iPhones/iPods get confused about their storage, you can solve this by “restoring” them but then of course you lose all the contents on the device.

Don’t use iTunes.

Lots of other programs work a lot better and don’t bog down your PC.

I use the iPod plugin in good old (and I mean old) Winamp. Presumably there are a lot of more modern programs that do the job.

Have you pressed anything that say “sync”? You need to sync first, I’d say…it’s setting up the parameters of the sync (what songs and apps should be on there) and showing you the end results, but doesn’t seem like it’s actually done the synching first. It actually takes a while on first go, the first time you sync a device to iTunes.

No, I sync, It syncs automatically when you first plug in, and then after I change the songs I want I hit sync and then it refuses claiming there isn’t enough room.

I think I need to de-authorize all my computers and then authorize this one. ?

Have you tried updating Itunes on the system and your Phone?

Like everybody else I ignore the whole ‘There is a new version of Itunes, would you like to’ etc, etc. Because Itunes seems to update itself about a dozen times a week and it inexpicably insists on reinstalling itself from scratch every time in the most annoying way possible (I only put up with it because it’s genuinley a good source of podcasts which are my main thing to listen to)

I’ve had similar problems when I haven’t updated in a while, which mysteriously correct themselves when i go thought the hassle of installing the new version.
