We have a Sony X800G we got in December, 2019. I see a TV remote control on my iPhone 6S. I clicked it, and it searched for a TV but didn’t find one. Is there a way to use the iPhone remote control with our TV? If so, how do we do it? ---

That is to control an [Apple TV](https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-tv/apple-tv-hd/32gb). It won’t work with anything else. ---

You may, however, be able to download an app from Sony that can control your TV. I used to be able to control my Sony smart TV with an app on my phone. Alas, Sony’s app no longer supports my 11 year old TV. ---

Yeah, there are apps for controlling a TV with your phone, but they are specific to the TV company. I have a Panasonic TV remote on my iPhone. It requires the TV to be connected to the local WiFi I think.
