iPod/iPod Nano Question

I imagine it’d be another month, tops, before some 3rd party builds a nano enclosure out of aircraft aluminum or something else durable enough to survive an accidental sitting-upon.

If you do get a nano go to invisibleshield.com. They have this really really thin plastic coating for your Nano. I used it for a couple of days without it, got a few scratches. I put on the invisibleshield plastic doohickey and it has been great! I put the nano in my pocket with keys, change and other stuff and haven’t gotten any scratches.

The nano is really nice as well. Small enough, tough enough to use every day. I got to find better headphones though, I don’t like the Apple supplied ones…

The other point about Nanos and scratches is …

If you’re that worried about it, don’t get the black model. From what I’ve heard, the black ones show scratches lamentably well; the white ones much less so.

I bought the 20 gig photo model about 3 months ago, and have loved it. It’s already passed the drop on concrete test, and skipping is something you never have to think about. I was checking out a nano this weekend, possible X-mas material for a special gal, and I have to say it’s a neat toy. The size and weight is unreal, it’s like a USB stick. If you need less then 4 gig, I’d go with the nano, of you need more, go with its big brother. Either way, you’re getting a fine product. I know this sounds silly, but personally I like the big ipod, the nano is too small.

THAT would probably clinch the sale for me. A bomb-proof enclosure for the Nano is just the ticket, I tells ya…

I bet they’re around the corner. There is a company that makes these things for Palm Pilots, you might want to see if they make anything else. If not, email me, let’s get a business loan stat!

Fix your iPod nano scratches for $4.

I agree…

I get the feeling that these people complaining are those sort of leet dudes who like to have everything in black and get pissed if you leave fingerprints on their iPods after using them. Jesus its a music player. I don’t care what it looks like as long as it does its job and I can see the screen.

On the other hand I do also hear that there are problems that you can’t even see the screen well. i don’t know about the normal iPod, but my iPod mini seems to have a glass screen. i can’t be sure, but it sure does seem hard.

BTW, those minis are indestructible. they don’t scratch easily anywhere. I love mine. Although I would rather have a nano.

If you want a quick idea of how to protect it, simply take a piece of clear tape and cut it to fit neatly over the screen. Problem solved, eh? People have said to have done this with good results. And obviously black would scratch more. I just think thats because when you scratch the clear plastic that it has a white color which is less noticeable over a white background.

Actually, it’s just a $50 difference between the two. If I compare a bit:

2GB Nano: $199
4GB Nano: $249

whereas

4GB Mini: $199
6GB Mini: $249

So, if we go from the example that they halve the capacity of the lowest-capacity old model and end up with the same price product, they could theoretically come out with a 10GB iPod with flash memory for the same price as the current 20GB hard drive one. My question now is if this is a possibility from Apple’s POV? It’s already been said that they’ve pretty much cornered the market on purchasing flash memory from the manufacturers (according to my theory, possibly for larger capacity iPods than just the Nano); is the manufacturing market large enough that it could support Apple making 10GB and larger iPods?

Does you iPod Nano seem to soft? You afraid it might bend? Wouldn’t you rather it were more stiff and hard? Well then you, my friend, should be sporting some iWood.

It is wood that will not bend!
