iPod Touch or iPod Classic?

I have an iPhone and an iPod Classic. I pretty much only listen to music on the iPod, despite the fact that I have my phone with me all the time. As others have mentioned, the controls are much easier to deal with. I’m really not a fan of touch screens for that application. The screen is bigger and the graphics are prettier, but that really isn’t any benefit when listening to music. Also, the iPhone isn’t nearly big enough to hold all of my music, and it seems that no matter how carefully I curate the collection on the iPhone (a chore I don’t find particularly enjoyable), I always end up wanting to listen to something that didn’t make it. IMHO, the iPhone isn’t a particularly good iPod.

I basically agree with this. I do all my media playing on my Ipod Classic. The Iphone’s battery runs down too fast, and when I’m watching a video on a device I’m holding in my hand, the size benefit of the Iphone/Ipod Touch isn’t really a factor for me.

I have an Ipod touch. I think it is sitting dead in a drawer somewhere.

The controls issue is a killer for me. I often take long walks, for about an hour or so. I will have the headphones wired under my shirt up to my ears, and the ipod in my coat pocket. I will flick past songs alot, and that is just a matter of (with my hand in my pocket) hitting the forward button.

I had been all stoked about having an Itouch, but having to take the it from my pocket, unlock it, find the music screen, EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to skip a song!! Gah, just not happening.

Now, the Touch seems like a really neat toy, and the 64GB should be more than enough to keep me busy for a while. However, it goes for nearly $130 more than the Classic on Amazon, and I’m not sure the bonuses that the Touch offers (games, email, etc.) are worthwhile for me since I also have a Motorola Android as my phone. From my brief glimpses, the 'Droid already gives me every advantage that the Touch would have over the Classic.

I could have written this: I have a Droid, my current iPod is a 30GB 5th gen that I keep thinking about upgrading, and for a while I was on the fence about the Touch vs the Classic. I recently decided to go with the Classic, for all of the reasons mentioned above. I haven’t actually gotten one yet, though, because – also like you – I’m hesitant to spend the money on a new iPod while my current one is still functioning just fine (it just has a small hard drive and looks like crap after years of getting all scratched up).

However, my birthday is at the end of next month, and I was thinking I’d get one then. Wouldn’t it be so very nice of Apple to release a new iPod just for me?
