# Irish DO NOT hate the color ORANGE!

The good people here in Dublin (one of the many USA Dublins) were going to pick a nice city flag with a simple shamrock and a gold border.
Some JERK on the council with no knowledge of Ireland says “Irish hate Orangemen, so they hate the color Orange”, and the flag was defeated. In its place (surprise) they picked that same jerk’s dorky oldfashoned emblem/motif/composite/shield thing with a tree here and a church there (which they later called a school, but didn’t change the picture, which was of the town’s first church), and a girl with her horse, and a sheaf of wheat, and lots of curly ropes between them.
FACTS:
The Irish flag itself is Green White Orange stripes.
The Dublin city flag is green and gold (a harp).
So don’t believe councilmen who tell you what whole countries “hate”.

He didn’t represent the whole country of course, but my high school lit teacher, Mr Gaffney, would throw people out of class if they wore orange on March 17th.

Hi Sue,
can I correct something? The Dublin Flag is actually Navy and Blue, with three burning Castles on it.
the flag you are refering to is the flag of Leinster, one of the 4 provences in Ireland.
and yes, the councilman is a jerk. I’ll bet he sings songs about the Old Sod and gives money to NORAID.
PUTZ.

In my thoroughly non-diverse youth a young man showed up at school (3rd grade, I think) on St. Patrick’s Day all decked out in purple and orange ribbons and nary a hint of green. The teacher brought him up in front of the class and explained to us that young Mr. Emerson was _Protestant_ Irish and did not celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and that if any of us took advantage of his non-green status we would be chopped into tiny bits and fed to wolves (or something like that).
We didn’t pinch him.

St . Patrick is the Patron Saint of ALL IRELAND . He did most of his work in the North .
The main protestant cathedral in Dublin is called St . Patricks .
St. Patricks day in Ireland is a celebration of Irish culture in the whole Island .
This green v’s orange shite is what has lead to 3000+ people being killed over the last 30 years and it **really** annoys me .
It also should me mentioned that in the south in doesn’t matter one jot what religion you are , protestant or catholic or any other of the myriad of religions we have here ,unless your a racist/biggot .

If you don’t hate the color orange, then why is there a “no-man’s land” of white between it and the green on your flag? 😉
What really pisses me off are the American’s who support the factions in the north, prolonging the agony in something that isn’t even their fight. I want to car bomb them.

On behalf of the Dutch people in general and William the Conqueror in particular, I would like to apologise for inflicting all this orange shit on the United Kingdom and, subsequently, Ireland. We promise to restrict our Reign of Orange Terror to football from now on 😉

William the Conqueror = William I. He was a Norman.
William of Orange = William III. He was Dutch.
Hmmmm… Wouldn’t a real Dutchman know that? Maybe Coldfire is really Belgian.

Apparently, it’s a local thing. William III is known as “Willem de Veroveraar”, or William the Conqueror, in the Netherlands. Sorry about the misunderstanding. And don’t call me Belgian 😉
