Iron Chef New York! Woo-hoo!!

For the record, Gordon Elliot is a dickhead. Not only does he not get the whole point of the show - what the hell was he doing asking the judges to compare Morimoto’s and Flay’s dishes BEFORE the scoring?? - but he couldn’t even be bothered to learn how to PRONOUNCE ‘Masaharu Morimoto’. It woulda been nice to see Gordon Elliot get electrocuted instead of Bobby Flay.
And the ‘12th Man’ judge…what can I say…he knew that somebody had to be the bimbo!

Well, sort of. Iron Chef Sammamish was tonight, and while I took three and tied with the fourth out of five judges, the fifth judge gave a seven point spread to the other guy, so he won the points. They called two winners, 1 for points and 1 for judges.

It was very hard and very tiring. I have a newfound appreciation for what those guys go through. But hey, at least I didn’t get electrocuted!

OK, it’s been on at least twice now, so I’m posting, dammit!

First off, I thought that introductory show was hilarious. The IC’s really seemed blow away by how popular they are here. It was great. I just hope they never realize that part of their popularity is because we find it so very strange. That idiot Gordon Elliott’s only redeeming feature was when he bit into the hamburger. That was priceless. Why did we have a Brit hosting the American-Japanese battle?
Anyone else think the Morimoto-wannabe kid gets beat up a lot? Yeah, me too.

Then there was the battle itself. Oh, man. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. When Chairman Kaga entered among a shower of yellow peppers I about peed my pants. Overall, I thought they did a decent job of sticking with the original show, but I missed Ohta! I’d say his replacement did a pretty good job of filling the BDJ role. “I’m going to ask some questions now. How do you feel?”
They edited too much of the cooking and tasting out. We had no idea what they were making until the end, and then we didn’t get to see them eat half the dishes! Blasphemy.
I really felt sorry for the announcers. They had no idea what was happening to them. They did a good job, however, adapting to the American audience.

But the highlight was, of course, seeing Morimoto getting pissed at Flay for stepping on his cutting board. Man, he was mad! That was some serious trash-talking for him. “He is no chef.” You said it, Moto old buddy.

More later if I memory serves correctly…
