My husband has a plan to make a Mustang GT his midlife-crisis-mobile. I suspect he will indeed drive it like a maniac - probably in the mountains, where he can scare the shit out of me by taking curves way too fast. ---

What I want to know is, why is it all the high end German cars made these days have optional turn signals? I rarely see them used, they must cost a lot more to produce. I’ve decided that my mid-life crisis ride is going to be a 20 year old girlfriend. I’m not waiting until middle age though. ---

Irrational hatred: People who drive Mustangs with a V6 and an automatic transmission. Rational hatred: People who drive cars with the fart pipes. Gee, I want my car to sound like a chain saw! Grrr. I guess I just have a juvenile sense of humor but I giggle every time I see the nuts hanging from the bumpers. ---

One day as I was starting up my dead father-in-law’s Camry (he’d willed it to us) to go to work, I threw up in my mouth a little. I already didn’t like my wife very much and this car…it wasn’t me. Couple days later I found an old MR2 for sale and announced I was going to either get the car or a girlfriend (I was 41). I dumped the Camry and used the proceeds to buy the sports car. 8 months later someone rear-ended my car and totaled it. 3 months later I filed for divorce. 2 months later I fell in love with a much younger & prettier lady who also loves to wrench on cars. 3 months later I bought another MR2. 2 months later the lady married me. Now I’m a once-divorced fat bald white guy pushing middle age driving around in a red sports car with a hot blonde by my side. Funny how it all worked out. So any shallow assumptions you’d make about mid-life crisis sterotypes are all wrong. PT Cruier people though…I’ll bet they’re all on their way to the Jerry Springer show. ---

If you want to just be a passenger in a comfy car, go right ahead; just don’t do it in a car that’s built to give you a driving experience. ---

To be fair (and I generally agree with you), its not like you can’t get awesome performance from a powerful car with an automatic tranny, especially nowadays with autos having some kind of manual shift option built into them. Not that any of that is a great replacement for a quality six-speed gearbox, mind you, but it certainly can be done… ---

Completely irrational, but now that there’s a Mini Cooper dealership in town, the goddamn things have been popping up everywhere, and it’s usually the same type driving them: the affluent late-20’s-to-early-30’s, ever-so-slightly-crunchy douchebags who would like you to believe that they are heavily into performance driving, and that they are suddenly experts on handling characteristics of all cars. They also look down their noses at any small hatchback besides the Mini. They normally have a Union Jack somewhere (most often on the front license plate spot). They participate in Mini Cooper clubs. My only guess is that it’s a support group for guys that have spent too much money on a boxy, underpowered rattletrap. “Tee hee! But it’s so kuh-yewt!” “Shut the fuck UP!” ---

To me, Mercedes drivers are arrogant pricks and BMW drivers are expensive-car wannabes. From my personal eperience so it is a biased hatred, but aren’t they all? 😉 I’ll just continue to cruise along in my Audi A6 and when the mid-life crisis hits I’ll get a red Audi R8 😃 Not that it is likely I’ll be able to afford one… :smack: ---

Lexus owners always seem to be the ones taking up TWO parking spaces in the (continuously) crowded parking lot. If you can’t stand the idea of someone else touching your precious car, leave it in the garage. Yes, your mechanic charges you $$$$$ for repairs. I don’t care.
