[Did Ann Coulter Vote Illegally?](http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/02/politics/main2143882.shtml)

> [@](#):
>
> Conservative columnist Ann Coulter has refused to cooperate in an investigation about whether she voted in the wrong precinct, so the case will likely be turned over to state prosecutors, Palm Beach County’s elections chief said Wednesday.
>
> Elections Supervisor Arthur Anderson said his office has been looking into the matter for nearly nine months, and he would turn over the case to the state attorney’s office by Friday.
>
> …
>
> Knowingly voting in a wrong precinct is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney’s office in West Palm Beach.

If it was an honest error, why won’t she cooperate with investigators and put this to bed? If there is a goddess in heaven, the Coultergeist will be put away until after the '08 election.

They won’t touch it. Too many headaches. For one thing, how do they decide whether to put Coulter in a men’s or women’s prison?

[What I’ve read](http://www.lastchancedemocracycafe.com/?p=162) about the story doesn’t suggest that Coulter was deliberately trying to vote fraudulently, but I can’t figure out what she thought she was doing:

> [@](#):
>
> A Palm Beach poll worker says he tried to help GOP-loving pundit Ann Coulter vote in the right precinct last week. But, Jim Whited says, Coulter dashed out of the polling place when he told her she needed to file a change of address. […]
>
> Later, elections records show, Coulter cast her ballot 2 miles up the road — in the wrong precinct.

The fun part, of course, is comparing Coulter’s conduct with her own earlier condemnations of Palm Beach voters who couldn’t figure out how to vote correctly in the 2000 elections:

> [@Coulter on 10-11-2000](#):
>
> I love these jackasses claiming they meant to vote for Gore but — whoops! — slipped and pulled the lever for Buchanan instead! Oh really. Let’s pretend that’s true. Sorry, but that’s one of the disabilities of being a political party that preys on the stupid. Sometimes your “base” forgets it’s Election Day, too. Live by demagoguing to the feeble-minded, die by demagoguing to the feeble-minded.

Coulter may be a ditz, and an evil lying ditz, but it’s hard to see this incident as something deserving of serious jail time. I don’t know, maybe she deliberately committed voter fraud to muster support for the conservatives’ voter-ID campaign? Makes about as much sense as anything else she does, AFAICT.

Sending Coulter to jail for this offence would be cruel and unusual punishment.

“Needed to file a change of address”? Unfortunately, if on election day your registration isn’t up to date with your current address, **you don’t get to vote.** That happened to me once. There should be some provision for election-day registration, but the Pubs have always been dead against that.

Y’know what it sounds like?
Like she did it, and is following it up uncooperatively, **on purpose** to make the PBC election process part of her Kaufmanesque _“the joke’s on all of you but only I know the punchline”_ political schtick. At least were I a PBC elections official that would be my line: “We know this is part of her damn act, and we’re not playing along.”

I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of the matter quickly. When has an Arthur Anderson investigation ever resulted in any impropriety?

Anyone’s who’s familiar with some of the things this woman has said, has to admit there’s a real possibility she’s genuinely mentally ill. And her aberrations are focused on the government. Expecting her to make rational decisions in a situation like this may be beyond her.

In some states there are, mine included. It looks like [we’re in the minority](http://www.votejustice.org/article.php?list=type&type=23), though: ID, ME, MN, NH, WI, WY. Half of them are “red states” so are you sure it’s a republican problem?
