> Oh what a load of crap. This is not remotely a “Big Lie”. Saying there was no explicit rule about having a private server is bullshit tap dancing. There are rules about keeping info safe and she flagrantly thought that her unmonitored basement server was good enough and/or there was nothing confidential on it anyways.
>
> You can say this won’t change your vote but pretending this is purely partisan bullshit is no way correct.

I’m a Hillary supporter, and I agree that the investigation into her email server is not partisan bullshit. She legitimately did something wrong, and while I don’t think it’s bad enough to preclude her from office, it’s obviously not something that should be ignored.

But the problem is that Hillary has been the target of _so much_ partisan bullshit that it’s awfully hard to tell, and the extent to which her failings have been attacked certainly _is_ partisan.

So: FBI investigating whether Hillary committed a crime? Not partisan.
Republican House calling the FBI director for an “emergency” hearing to berate him for determining that she didn’t? Partisan bullshit. And who knows how many more hearings we’ll have on the subject.

And, of course, the reason it would not change my vote is that she’s running against Trump, who strikes me as frighteningly incompetent to serve as president in every way.

Wrong, FBI’s Comey shot down that one. Many sources on the right are telling many about the “lie” about the convenience referring to using more than one device, [but even that is iffy](http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/war_stories/2016/07/hillary_s_email_scandal_was_overhyped.html), the main reason was not as you mention here, it was not to avoid FOIA, but the FBI did say that there is no evidence to deny that the server was setup as a convenience to continue using her old email account as she declared early.

[http://www.sunjournal.com/news/nation/2016/07/07/house-committee-wants-fbi-investigate-hillary-rodham-clintons-testimony/1955637](http://www.sunjournal.com/news/nation/2016/07/07/house-committee-wants-fbi-investigate-hillary-rodham-clintons-testimony/1955637)

>
> Comey tells a House committee that the FBI’s “best information” is that Clinton set up the private server “as a matter of convenience.” Those comments are in line with what Clinton has told the public.

As for the hackers:

> The hacker “Guccifer,” whose real name is Marcel Lehel Lazar, hacked the email account of longtime Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal — and claimed he broke into the server Clinton used when she was secretary of State.
>
> But those claims were bogus, Comey told the House Oversight Committee during his testimony on the investigation into Clinton’s use of a personal email server.
>
> “He did not [gain access to Clinton’s server], he admitted that was a lie,” Comey said in response to questions from Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas).

Yes, OP. I am going to vote for Donald Trump over the emails, and only over the emails. Certainly I never delete emails myself, and like most Americans I consider emails to be something to be archived carefully, not something disposable.

Hillary’s lack of tech-savvy is disqualifying. Trump, on the other hand, appears to actually manage his own Twitter account, and that is why he will be the best President ever.

My decision has nothing to with Hillary’s lifelong support of “free trade,” or her close ties to Goldman Sachs. Heck, you want to talk corruption, Trump’s in bed with the Mafia, right? No, it can only be the emails.

This is truly the political issue of our times, and not a bizarrely overexposed bit of political nonsense. And if only the media would talk about it more, then the American people would turn on Hillary Clinton for her unforgivable sins against email archive integrity, and not put her in office. It’s far better to talk about this than any policy decisions, conflicts of interest, or personal favors that older generations might consider disqualifying. No! Don’t talk about those things! Email is everything!

I’m sure the other young people will agree with me here.

I could see someone getting fed up enough to stay home or (much better) vote third party, but to start supporting Trump over this? If you’re not already a fan of the racist, sexist, xenophobic, tax-evading, con-man who’s in bed with the Mafia, I don’t see why Hillary doing something bad would make him appealing. I think the discussion in this thread bears that out; there are people arguing ‘what Hillary did was really bad’, but they’re not even attempting to line up ‘Hillary bad’ against ‘Trump bad’.

Clinton has done one disqualifying thing. Trump has done twenty. Clinton’s got a long way to go to catch up.

For me, the only small way to get satisfaction is to see Clinton win with less than what her husband got in 1992. She’s currently at 40-41 in polls that have Johnson and/or Stein as choices, so fingers crossed. 39% would be particularly satisfying. And for those who say it doesn’t matter, I got three words for you: down ballot races. 40% don’t come with no coattails. In 1992, the Democrats lost 9 seats in the House and the Senate had no change.

One hacker lying about hacking her server doesn’t mean that it wasn’t compromised. Clinton’s security was a joke. They wouldn’t have been able to know they were hacked, let alone stop a sophisticated a hacker. Plus, she accessed it via blackberry while in China and Russia. It is inconceivable that these countries didn’t penetrate her server.

Neither do I, but it is not a crime. And under some pressure Comey reported that there was even less of a reason to be so harsh on Clinton as he had done early. IMHO Comey made it harsher early to give something to the Republicans, but it only lead to what we are seeing now, to accusations to a fix made by Trump and many Republicans.

Again, “possible” does not make a case. Using a bit of logic it is clear to me that the FBI should had seen already other hackers coming up with the goods if that was the case.

That’s more wishful thinking than logic. Just because there aren’t private hackers bragging about getting in her server is not reason to believe the Chinese or Russians haven’t quietly been snooping all along.

Maybe I have not seen this addressed, after all there’s been a lot of discussion on this issue, but what personal email system would the detractors have preferred Hillary Clinton to use? AOL? Gmail? Hotmail?

Or is the expected standard that she is to conduct her personal business on the State Department email system?

On the contrary. The FBI described it as “extremely unlikely” that the hackers would have left evidence of their intrusion.

Any of these would have been preferable. Maintaining a private server with no full time security staff and running out of date protection software is laughably vulnerable.
