Does anyone know which codecs each type supports? We’re looking at a high-def camcorder that records to mini-DVD in the AVCHD format, which I understand is h.264 in a MPEG type wrapper. The model is a Sony, and they indicate the only high-definition playback options are either output from the camera via component cables or blu-ray player.
Will HD DVD players play these discs? I understand that the AVCHD format is not Sony proprietary.
I have a feeling if there will be a winner, it will be HD DVD. Much cheaper to manufacture and stamp the media, as I understand it. But, Sony would have to pretty much stop supporting the Playstation platform in order to Blu-Ray, so I think both will be around for some time (and we’ll be stuck with hybrid players or media).
Yeah, I read an article just today about the way the adult film industry was going - and it appears they’re set for HD-DVD thanks to lower costs and Blu-Ray snobbery. According to those same articles, it was Porn that helped VHS edge out Betamax, among other factors…
My local Best Buy devotes about half an aisle to HD-DVD product; I don’t remember seeing Blu-Ray there, although I could have missed it.
Considerations of format prospects and title availability aside, which format offers the superior visual and audio experience? And how state-of-the-art does your system have to be in order to appreciate the marginal superiority of one over the other?
Apparently, one of the features of HD-DVD is that if the disc has the correct enhanced features, you can superimpose your face (or anyone else’s face) over that of an actor’s in the movie. Thus, you could demonstrate to your GF that she’d look incredibly hot having lesbian sex.
Miller, I believe the DMCA is what makes it legal.
