Your post reminds me of the idea that actors’ careers end later but actresses’ careers start earlier. We all know the complaint that women over 40 get discriminated against in Hollywood, but men under 25 often get the same treatment.

Your post in particular reminded me of that because when Thelma & Louise opened in theaters, that scrawny kid was 27 years old. That was his breakout role, and it was a total throwaway bit part. At 27.

By contrast, Anne Hathaway is 27 right now, and Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley are (or are about to be) 25. All three have already had strong careers headlining movies for the better part of a decade.
