Is Colbert for real? (+ could he win?)

well, lets put it this way.

The online Facebook Group:1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert was the absolute fastest growing facebook group of ALL TIME and reached it’s goal of 1,000,000 members in about 10 days. Yes, that’s right, 10 days. It was started on October 17th, I believe, and here are the group totals provided by the creator of the group.

And the damn thing is still growing. The other candidates have had groups like this for almost a year and none have even come close to his numbers. And he’s gotten that far in 12 days. And he didn’t even advertise this group or tell people to join it or participate like he did with this bridge (which got 17 million votes).

Of those 1,200,000 members, almost all are of voting age and most of them are serious about their support. They are so disenfranchised with the other candidates that they would gladly support someone they love and honor, Stephen Colbert.

So could he win? Maybe, probably not. But 1,200,000 write in votes can’t be bad

Good guess.

Want to bet? If he takes young college age votes away from other candidates, we get… more of what we already have. No thanks.

Right, but he isn’t taking just liberal leaning votes away. He would also be taking conservative votes too. I know some REAL (and I mean super, crazy, 700 club supporting) conservatives that have said they’d vote for him.
There is unhappiness on both sides by the younger voting age group. And it wouldn’t only take away votes from both sides, he could actually get more people to vote. The percentage of eligible voters 18- 26 that actually do vote is always small. But can you imagine if almost all of them voted? That would knock the crap out of some of the other candidates.

I’m not saying he’d be the best thing for our economy. I’m just saying that people my age have an ability to go all out and really follow through with something when they want to. They simply need something to follow…

Just coming in to note that the only politically oriented costume that came to my door tonight was a kid dressed as Colbert. He got an extra piece of candy.

I find this fascinating as a lesson on the hoops one must jump through to run for office these days. I wonder if the expert on the other night is actually advising them, and got some air time in payment.
