# Is cooler weather worth shorter days?

I love Fall. It’s my favorite season. I love the cool weather, but I really don’t like the shorter hours of daylight.
I like to ride my bike to work, and my commute covers a lot of miles of small county backroads and highways that have no street lights. In the summer it’s a great ride, but in the fall at 6:00am it is pitch-freakin’ dark. And even with my bike lights and reflective clothes, I still feel like I’m taking my life in my hands.
So I’m pretty much back to driving my car once October rolls around. Which bums me out.

The whole ‘Arizona’ thing is what I was going to bring up. Try Chicago or South Dakota sometime and see how you like it.
For me? Nothing replaces the magic of midsummer. Hot, misty, and watching it stay light until 10PM is magic. I can see in my heart why mid-summer nights are when the fey come out to play.

If it was like this year round, fantastic! But noo, Old Man Winter is coming. It’ll be dark even here when I get off work and too cold to do anything anyway. I’m really going to start regretting getting on board with this running thing - honestly, knowing me I’ll probably quit. So no - I don’t particularly like cool weather OR short days.

Yeah. But I did live in Denver for 15 years. About 4 years ago they got 4 feet in one dump. Took out my Dad’s porch roof.
But you are right. Winter in the front range is mixed with wonderful 50-60 degree days. Sun and sky that will knock your socks off.

Nice pic. Looks like our place in the winter.
Yeah, the Front Range does get those classic dumps. We don’t get those here - it’s much more common for it to snow every day for several weeks than it is to get 2 or 4 feet overnight. But it doesn’t melt 'til spring, which can be May.
Overall, I like it better than places with no seasons. We missed a lot of the winter last year by going to New Mexico for 3 months. This year, we’re staying put. I like the big snow.
