I agree. Especially during the summer. I live in Baltimore, which from May to September, is like living in a baggie. Nobody wants to cook.

I don’t understand how to eat cottage cheese. It’s like a miss of yogurt and cheese but without any of the good.

Spread cold cottage cheese thickly across freshly toasted garlic bread. Sprinkle well with black pepper. Enjoy 😃

I’m reminded of a reality show I saw a couple seasons ago. It was called _My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss_. They fooled the contestants into thinking it was a Donald Trump type billionaire show. One time they were having the contestants attend a formal dinner and one of the things they did was take Bologna, put it in a food processor and whip it into mush, which they then presented as an extremely expensive _pâté_. Everyone was raving about it. “Ooh, this is how rich people eat! I can’t wait 'til I’m rich!”

The moral of the story is it’s all in the presentation. Bologna, Cheeze-Whiz, cottage cheese. Run it through the food processor, serve it on an expensive looking plate with a little herb garnish, maybe squirt some weird sauce artfully all over the plate, give it a “bam!” sprinke of paprika or something, and give it some ridiculous French name. Don’t go with _Fromage du Cottage_. Too obvious.

But no, I wouldn’t serve it as is during a formal dinner, anymore than I’d stick a bottle of ketchup on the table.
Some friends and I need mediation. We’re in agreement that cottage cheese with fruit is a nice little light lunch or summer dinner when it’s too hot to cook. However there is disagreement concerning cottage cheese as a side dish to a sit-down meal with, say roast beef.

One camp believes cottage cheese as a side dish is decidedly low-brow and unsophisticated. If you were having a dinner party and trying to impress, serving cottage cheese would be gauche. You might as well serve jello for dessert at this point.

The other camp believes cottage cheese is perfectly acceptable and the cool, creamy texture would complement beef.

Obviously we know when we’re noshing casually it’s a non-issue; but the disagreement over the more formal setting is fierce. So which camp is right?
All this talk of camps leads me to believe you’re talking about serving it in a formal setting while you’re out camping.

Don’t do that. A campground is no place for a formal dinner.

Pretty good place for cottage cheese, though.

If you make your own, including raising the calves, lambs or kids that eventually produce the milk, on your small farm in Provence or the Vermont countryside, it would be acceptable to serve cottage cheese at a formal dinner. The \*melange \* of fresh herbs would be a nice touch.

A girlfriend of mine used to make (probably still does) spaghetti with cottage cheese. She’d cook and drain the pasta, then throw in cottage cheese and pepper. It is surprisingly delicious, for all it looks like vomit.

I came in here to post something similar – cottage cheese has exactly one use: mix it in with spaghetti sauce. It adds a very nice texture and just a hint of flavor.

Unfortunately, my wife is exceedingly closed-minded on the issue, so I haven’t had spaghetti “the way mom used to make it” in roughly ten years. Ah well…the sacrifices you make for love.

I don’t mind cottage cheese, but I have nevereverever encountered it as a side dish. I would certainly look askance being served it as a side to roast beef. I’m not sure it’s low-brow so much as just plain weird.

So if you make the sauce, put hers in one pot and put yours in another and slop all the cottage cheese in yours that you want.

If she always makes the sauce, then get off your ass and make some sauce every once in a while you lazy bastard.

So, no insults. Against the rules anyway, and stuff.

That reminds me of a recipe for White Castle pate (Pate du Chateau Blanc) I once saw. Anyway, on the subject of cottage cheese, the only kind I like is California style (closer to ricotta than other cottage cheeses) and I’ve never thought of it as anything other than a breakfast food.

Well, I though **Otto** ’s remark was actually a joking, _friendly_ sort of thing, not insult at all.

Ah well. As for cottage cheese - side dish with steak? Boo. If I could afford a nice steak, I’d be eating something nicer with it. Cottage cheese is one of those thigns I might buy but never realy eat. ☹ You know, it being healthy and low fat and a sign of good intentions and stuff. 🙂 So I might eat t one bread or oatcakes occasionally, then there will come a day when the rest of the carton must go into the bin.

Hell, I was the target of **Otto** ’s “insult”, and I though it was a joke too.

To address his issue, thought – because of our work shedules, we split the cooking duties. When it’s my turn to make the sauce, I leave out the cottage cheese for the same reason my wife leaves out the broccoli – the other person finds it revolting.

But yes, we’re both too lazy to make two seperate sauces.
