# Is David Cross an asshole?

Regardless of whether you like his work, that’s completely unfair as a representation of it. It’s like judging Lou Reed based solely on _Metal Machine Music_.

Well, since my last post was over 4 years ago I have additionally seen him in Alvin & the Chipmunks and heard him in Curious George the movie, KungFu Panda, and Megamind. I guess he’s found his niche in kid’s films?

He was Tobias on **Arrested Development**. He also has a new show on IFC called **The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret**. Neither of which are geared towards kids, they’re both really funny though. **Todd Margaret** is the kind of cringe-inducing humor like Michael Scott on **The Office** , but multiplied 100x.

I liked his voice work as Minion on _Megamind_. Very funny. He was in both of the _Men in Black_ movies too, wasn’t he, as the clerk at the morgue in the first, and then as the clerk at the video-rental store in the second?

David Cross’s humour often depends on his use of the voice of “a bit of a dick.” I still have him on a short list of notable folks I wouldn’t mind having a beer with.
He’s definitely not in the same class as Chevy Chase or Andy Dick, who may or may not be funny from time to time but who are clearly assholes, in an existential sense.

Is the word on Chevy Chase that he is STILL an arrogant, full-of-himself asshole?
I wondered if after his career bombed in the 1990’s he found a bit of humility, because he (and his huge ego) was a punchline for other stand-up comics for years, right up until he landed his role on Community.
