Is fighting tyranny a purpose of the 2nd Amendment and, if so, at what level of government?

Some of the points in the post, coupled with the follow-up:

, was a subtle clue.

It’s ambiguous. I first took it to mean that it was the tyranny that would be imposed by liberals.

I then, after a second read, suspected that it may actually be the scenario envisioned by a liberal about how tyranny may come about.

I kinda hope the latter, and if I had to put down money, I’d go with it, but I’m not so sure I’d put down much.

I’m open to clarification.

I thought it was clear. There was much discussion, above, about the scenarios imagined by individuals. Some fantasized about the thoughts of liberals. I am a Liberal so I gave a first hand account of how I believe Tyranny would take over the US in the event that such a thing happens.

Tyranny, by definition, is right wing Conservative. In the US it would probably take the political form of Fascism - a charismatic leader fronting for the military industrial complex.

The Liberia slip is probably muscle memory because I collect stamps from Liberia.

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Oh yeah - my statistics. They were of course part of my speculation on the take over. But, I base them on what is happening today. Some 35% of the population appears to love Trump, another third or so doesn’t care and the remaining third opposes him through the normal political process. There is a fringe population that engages in some sort of armed rebellion. A reasonable fit to my speculation.

 you don’t consider Stalin a tyrant?!?

Or is it that you think of him as “right wing Conservative”?

Same questions for Pol Pot and Kim Il Sung.

HurricaneDitka,

Where did I say anything about Stalin?

Stalin was a tyrant in a political environment so different from our own that our political labels do not translate. I was speaking in the context of the US.
