Is Google politicizing search results?

It is well known that Google tailors search results based on previous searches. So if you spend a lot of time searching “politician A criminal” or “party B war criminal,” that will affect the results when you search for results on the opposite party. But that doesn’t sound like what’s happening here. (ETA, I flat missed Senegoid’s post. What he/she said.)

I tried searching for “bernie madoff” (he is, uncontroversially, a famous living convicted criminal). None of the suggestions included crime or criminal, even when I started typing the letters c-r-i-m…

I wonder if this has something to do with that European Union “right to privacy” case–if I recall it was brought by a Spanish man who was annoyed that his prior crimes were the first results when you googled his name. Could what we’re seeing be a brute-force fix?
