Is hate speech really not banned on the boards?

None I can think of. Generally they are Topic banned, but Topic banning comes when you annoy the Moderators, not the posters.

I can see a argument for CP to be Topic Banned. But his threads do generate debate and his ideas are roundly debunked. Isnt that better than just banning the debate in the first place?

Alternatively, you can just address the actual debate, ignoring anyone’s motivation. If you are so upset that you simply must vent, you can start a thread in the Pit. What is so difficult about that?

So far, Chief Pedant has started 65 threads, of which seven appear to be race- and/or IQ-related. The rest are things like “How does Kevin Trudeau make money” or “Attributing a pediatric fever to teething” and some AGW topics.

I assume you could respond to his “Tiger Woods should be disqualified from the Masters” thread without calling him a racist. Why not the others?

I started Three threads about a certain subject out of 183, but I was still topic banned. Obviously this made me *crazy obsessed.
*

But two were in ATMB. :smack:

Starting threads in ATMB seems to really annoy the Staff here.

Is saying racist things hate speech?

Maybe you could start a thread and ask.

Shodan

No No Bad Dog.

Sorry, wrong thread.

See post #2.

Well fuck it, nobody wants to address the actual issue I asked about. I just wanted to state how motivation leads people to have these problems with affirmative action. An example of the motivation was clearly there in the OP. That’s all.

I understand now. My mistake. Gratuitous, politely stated racism is well within the norms of the board. My bad.

How else will you ever debate and ultimately defeat racism if its not discussed and/or debated?

You cannot simply ‘silence’ a subject and pretend that it makes it ‘all better’.

You can;'t simply ‘abuse’ or ‘shame’ people that hold ‘wrong’ beliefs and pretend that will make it ‘go away’.

You have to be willing to debate, discuss and have open conversations - both to understand why the person might think a certain way and to (hopefully) show them the error in their thinking (if that be the case).

nm.

I’m not seeing much evidence of that.

Here’s an idea: start a new thread in Great Debates on the subject.

What didn’t I understand?

No, I get it. Vulgar racism bad. Polite racism not bad.

If I had responded with that phrase the very first time that you had ever raised the issue, you might have had a point. The reverse is true. I did give the issue consideration when you first raised it, we exchanged views on it, and in light of a number of points and the views of multiple posters, including yours, I came to a conclusion that disagreed with yours. Acting, months later, as though I am simply dismissing your views out of hand is nonsense. What I am doing is refraining from going over exactly the same thoughts repeatedly, simply because you did not like the conclusion I reached and insist on raising the same view repeatedly in the hope that you will wear me down. You are welcome to raise the issue as often as you feel necessary, but accusing me of “pat dismissal” of an idea that has been thoroughly chewed over has no basis in reality.

Racism racism racism. You tower above us all with your moral reckoning.

I now realize I no longer need to read threads here. Just (literally) say the word and my mind is made up for me.

That’s the truth. But hey, we’re just gonna get the silly words replaced there, in case anyone recognizes what they are.

Actually, I have lost track- exactly what are your demands?
