Is hatred towards EV's due to the belief in a apocalyptic future?

Wait, what? Who is throwing out a conspiracy theory that electricity is going to be cut off?

I’ve been following some facebook posts and there is a vocal group that says that EV’s are being pushed to control the population’s mobility. Getting into specifics with them is difficult as asking how and thinking about it seems to destroy their argument, but it generally breaks down to cutting off electricity with a subset of people saying that EV’s will overload the grid as part of the plan, and the solution would be government controlled power rationing, and preventing cars from charging from the grid through smart charging while preserving power for home use.

Okay. That’s nuts.

But you frequently have to hold the nozzle when refueling your gasmobile. Yes, I know that’s not the same, but it’s close enough.

Only when the nozzle is busted and it doesn’t ‘hold’ the gas position. Haven’t had to do that in years.

For some things that is true, but not for all systems in the car. The brakes, suspension, tires, body, body electrics, and many other parts are identical to an ICE car. Replacing struts on an EV shouldn’t be any more difficult than replacing them on an ICE. Of course how difficult that is depends a whole lot on the exact model of car, but the point is, being an EV is not what makes it difficult.

Probably more like every 2-3 hours and take 10-20 minutes. Because batteries charge faster when they are empty than near full, some people prefer to stop more frequently for shorter amounts of time. Others prefer to drive longer, but then charge longer.

I recently took an ICE road trip, and never drove more than 2.5 hours at a time because of the people in the car. The people also meant that the one gas stop still took 20+ minutes. Not everybody goes on a road trip with 7 people, so definitely not the typical case.

Yeah, that definitely can be a problem. Of course, with an EV, you can plugin and then sit in your car, or go hang out in the nearby convenience store, Walmart, or wherever feels safest. If it doesn’t feel safe, knowing you have to stay another 12 minutes, instead of 3, is going to really suck.

Well, it’s been years since I filled a gas tank, so my experience is apparently out of date. I seem to remember that having nozzles busted in that way was fairly common.

Where i live, it’s illegal to “prop open” the gas nozzle, and i hold it every time i put gas in the car. Which is why i think that failure mode of EV charging was made up by someone who has a gas car, and thinks that’s a normal thing to do.

It really isn’t normal with an EV, and I’d honestly be worried what else is wrong with the connector if it didn’t even hold in place.

My favorite Far Side cartoon.

Massachusetts did not allow gas nozzle clips until 2015. I didn’t know there was anywhere in the US where this is still not allowed.

Alberta (not in US, I know).

I was surprised when I filled up in Nelson BC yesterday when I saw the car in front of me at the pumps was using the clip. So I used it on on the nozzle and scrubbed bugs off the windshield.

I’m pretty sure my car locks the connector in place when I lock the car.
