Is "heighth" a regionalism?

Not completely – I’ve noticed that when I lapse into “a quaint regionalism” it’s usually a lack of paying attention on my part. I’d rather take a moment and say/write something properly, so people can focus on the content, instead of the way I’m saying it.

So, no, I don’t think everybody’s right, and that everything’s correct. “Heighth” is wrong (and I marked Milton down a half a letter grade for it). When I say it, I’m being lazy.

Do dopers really think I should “Red up the place”? Or “Patch you up?” (don’t even try to figure those out) Or say “Chimbley” or “Bubbler”? Or grab my “pockabook” and ask if somebody wants something from a Tag or The Package Store?

What’s the downside to saying things so that people understand you?
