Of course it’s not a neutral argument. Dan Savage is not neutral on the topic of vagina aesthetics. Dan Savage thinks that vaginas are unpleasant to look at. He has a negative opinion on the topic. Being a humorist, he expressed that opinion in the form of a joke.

I mean, everyone gets that you have no idea why the comment was problematic (given that you summarized it by removing the objectionable portions.) It’s not the job of any of us to help you understand why comments like this are problematic, and while I’m not speaking for this lady-person, I’m not willing to share my insights (such as they are – insights from a dude, which are obviously less useful than insights from a woman when it comes to the topic of sexism) until I have some belief that you are not just some douche trying to excuse sexism.

No, you answered another poster’s direct question. Since both you and miss elizabeth seem fuzzy on this, let me directly state that nothing I have posted in this thread has been done in my role as a moderator.

Too bad this place doesn’t have moderators of sufficient ability that they don’t HAVE to subsequently clarify things like this.

Also, when I said one hijack was enough, I was talking about me, not you.

For instance, moderators who were capable of following the rules they were responsible for enforcing.

As a general rule, first hand experience is always superior to second or third hand knowledge, I agree. But it’s not a trump card. It’s possible to have an educated opinion about issues facing a group of which you are not a member - moreover, it is possible for that opinion to be superior to that of a member of the group.

But not only have you not made it apparent that you have an educated opinion, your opinion has come across as manifestly inferior to that of members of the group, since it has consisted of refusing (or incapacity) to even understand why people took issue in the first place.

If you want a place where people will accept, “You can’t argue with me because I’m X,” as a valid defense, you’re really not in the right place.

The problem is that you have illustrated, in this thread at least, that other forms of argument are also useless here.

I honestly don’t see what’s remarkable about that. People can be incorrect about the descriptions of their own feelings. It happens all the time. I mean, don’t tell me you’ve never heard someone say, “I hate the sin, but love the sinner,” and thought, “Bullshit!”?
