Remember those giant cream filled eggs that were like 6 inches long and about a pound in weight? They came decorated with frosting flowers and piping. Belch! Those were gross.

You know that they have Cadbury Creme Eggs available in the UK _all year round_? Truly, it must be a paradise on earth. Several years ago, a friend sent me a whole box of them at a non-Easter time of year. Upon opening the box, I immediately ate three.

No, I didn’t throw up, but…it wasn’t my greatest idea of all time, either.

And, **Kyla** , they are also made with real Cadbury’s chocolate there. Not the nasty made under license stuff that seems to be prevalent in the states.

Most stores have a certain section for seasonal items. Back to School, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer Vacation, etc. They probably can’t afford to leave those shelves empty.

So it’s usually possible to avoid the offending aisle. Unlike the insufferable Christmas music that permeates so many stores far in advance of the holiday…

Valentines day is the biggest rip off of all holiday merchandise. They have to mark the stuff at 25% to match the regular merchandise, and it’s not a bargain until it reaches 10% of the original price. It has the worst candy of all holidays to.

I’ve been seeing Valentine’s stuff since about two weeks before Christmas.

Can i just say this: I have an unbelievably sweet tooth. There is almost no candy, chocolate, dessert, or other sweet concoction that i won’t try.

But Peeps are the most disgusting thing ever foisted on the unsuspecting public. I really think we ought to take off and nuke the factory from orbit. But even if we did, those horrid little radioactive-colored marshmallow things would probably survive.

Officially Cadbury only supply them from Xmas until Easter. Some stores will stockpile them to give 12 months supply, but the filling gets less and less pleasant over the year.

I dunno- it is always nice to get red & green packaged chocolates at 75% off because the stores have to make room for the pink and red packaged chocolates.

On the one hand, I’m not a fan of getting shit into stores months ahead of time, even for stuff that requires a fair bit of preparation like Christmas. (And really, how much is on the average person’s Easter shopping list? A bit of candy and some little toys for baskets, something nice for lunch if you’re so inclined, a new outfit apiece if so inclined. Some eggs and dye. It’s generally a pretty low-key holiday, which is one of the things I like about it.) Four months of any given holiday is exhausting, and the insane lead time makes it really hard to find seasonally-appropriate stuff close to the actual season. You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find turkey stuff in November, for instance.

On the other hand, the mad rush to clear out this holiday’s stuff and cram in the next one gives me some great deals on dog toys. All those little plush animals you see everywhere at Valentines and Easter? They’re cheap, they have no squeakers to drive **DoctorJ** crazy, and they’re way sturdier than any dog toy you’ll find for the same price–more solid stitching, firmer fabric, more tightly affixed eyes, all that jazz. And the leftover ones go 50% off at midnight of the holiday, which was ridiculously convenient when I was working at the emergency clinic and drove past a Walmart on my way home at 3 am. Hey, dogs are colorblind, unable to read calendars, and not really up on holiday symbology. All they know or care is hey, here’s a stuffed zebra to suck on. The pink and red stripes and the hearts on the hoofs bother them not in the least, nor does the fact that it’s clearly a holiday afterthought.

There’s a simple reason why the stores display their Easter eggs so early. It’s because they’ve been sat in our warehouse for the last week or so, and we need the space.
Seriously our store got it’s first delivery of solid eggs on **Christmas eve**. I was actually in a good mood at work, and thought it would be a laugh to put a couple of big stacks just inside the shop entrance.

Fortunately the rest of the staff pinned me to the floor and threatened to force feed me Cadbury creme eggs if I even tried.

Back to my usual humbug self now, thank Og.

No, no, it’s the earlier _Lent_ of peeps ‘n’ things. Advent is before Christmas.
Oh, and I was at Jo-Ann before Christmas and Valentine’s (and perhaps even St. Patrick’s Day) stuff was already out. It was jarring.

It’s actually understandable that a craft store like Jo-Ann would have stuff out early, since it could take some time to make.

It’s the early edible stuff that’s most questionable.

But my horses _adore_ Peeps! I stock up after every holiday, when they’re marked down 90% (or more).

I didn’t realize they were meant for human consumption…most dreadful.

While we certainly wouldn’t have asked for them, the reaction of my husband and I to finding out that chocolate, choc-chip hot X buns were back on shelves was: “Yay!”

I don’t see why the bakeries don’t just neglect to put the X on until Easter - you just \*know \*it’s got to be ticking people off all over the place, and they doubtless get plenty of complaints. Leaving the X off would be less work and less hassle for them, and it’s not like the cross enhances the flavour or anything.
