I’m sure this was never going to be a fun war, but thus far I had not heard of any Balkan-esque ethnic cleansings or the like. I admit I have not been paying huge amounts of attention. Yes, a passenger jet was shot down by the rebels. It is tragic, but in the end was an accident - an accident caused by giving morons anti-air weapons but not something the rebel government planned on doing. Then a couple of days ago the rebels parade a bunch of POWs through town to be taunted, spat upon and otherwise humiliated in a rather blatant violation of the Geneva conventions. Sure, its not as bad as taking them into a field and shooting them, but it is still a [violation of the POW’s rights](http://www.hrw.org/news/2014/08/24/dispatches-marking-ukrainian-independence-day-laws-war-violation). Moscow’s official reply seems to be “we dinnut see nuttin’ wrong”. Now there is [this](http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/26/world/europe/russia-ukraine.html?_r=0). OK, if this woman is part of the Ukrainian forces it is even worse than the parade. If she is a spy then why is this the punishment? I am hoping the pace of these abuses are not going to become the norm. ---

Putin is a major dick and they seem to be taking the tone from him. ---

Right, Ukrainian loyalist troops are, of course, perfect angels and wouldn’t dream of committing war crimes. Human rights organizations recently condemned both sides equally for their conduct in this war. ---
