I just discovered Reddit, and find I’m spending a bit more time there these days, just as a lurker. I only show up here to be entertained by other people’s stories & experiences, and occasional witty comments, and somehow Reddit seems to have more of it. Probably a combination of volume and the upvote/downvote system that means I can see the best posts first. Also, honestly, I find SDMB regulars to be a bit closed-minded about paranormal, fortean, and/or and sometimes spiritual type things I find interesting–and seem to be very common human experiences (even around here, almost everyone has a story, as confirmed by a poll I did once) --yet acknowledging them any way, or even refraining from jumping in with immediate negation and belittlement of the OP, would somehow constitute a Betrayal Of The Cause. “No. There’s no such thing. If there’s no peer reviewed journal article documenting evidence for it, then it can’t exist. We’re here to Fight Ignorance, not encourage it. It’s impossible to be closed minded toward such things, as such things don’t deserve consideration. Oh, and Flying Sphagetti Monster! Hur hur hur!” Whatever. Carry on with our your crusade however you see fit, I’ll go elsewhere for my entertainment. ---

I wouldn’t say “lately”. Good things don’t last on the internet, and the concentration of clever people here started to dilute over 10 years ago. Also, boobies. **Koxinga** mentions Reddit, but it never had that concentration of clever people to begin with. Reddit’s semi-clever membership makes it a great place to start a viral ad campaign, nothing more. ---

I think we’re a little hyper-vigilant about trolls, personally. For me watching a good troll, or even a mediocre one, liven things up with absurdty is a rare pleasure of the internet. I realize that this is an unpopular opinion, though. ---

Has anyone come up with a good system of categorizing Trolls around here: Sympathy Troll (Syt) Righteous Outrage Troll (Rotter) Insanity Troll (WTFer) aka “I burning your dog” Others? Then of course there needs to be a way to capture them and kill them or relocate as appropriate. ---
