Some of us can range into the verbose. And yet a search check revealed that _even with this thread topic running_, the word sesquipedalian has not been used in over two weeks. I think that shows restraint. ---

You are correct. It is a maxim. My apologies. The origin is debated. You said so in your post when you claimed Twain may or may not have said it. And I can read just fine thank you. ---

No one used this quote much before 1960. I don’t just read what is quoted on the internet. Twain would have been furious that such a banal remark would have been attributed to him.
