Is it OK to "Crate Train" a Puppy?

We crate trained our dog, a westie, and her crate was her special comfort place, complete with a cushion and blankets.
My dear departed Fluffy used to sit outside the crate when Lassie (my sister named her…) was in there and the dog would just bark and bark at the cat, who sat there like the smug little brat she was.
Dogs LIKE the crate-it’s just like a crib, for animals.

I heard you should get them their “final” crate and just block of part of it with boxes, because they will get to like that crate, rather than having to deal with new crates.

We’ve had a puppy since last Christmas (just over a year old now) and crating works great.
Sophie Noel (in remembrance of her being a Christmas gift to my dad) always knows that she goes in there whenever we have to leave. We don’t have to put her in there at night anymore, but she still goes in on her own sometimes.

I really don’t think it makes too much of a difference , it just depends on your budget and personal preferences. If you can afford it, I guess it would be ideal to get a new crate for every growth stage, but if your budget can’t handle it (seeing how expensive good crates can get) I am sure it’s quite alright to get the large in the beginning and block it with a divider. I personally wouldn’t use just ordinary boxes, because the puppy can chew them easily, (But, again, that’s just me).
