During fetal development, hormones cause the organ of the central nervous system and the organs of reproduction to differentiate into one of 2 genders. Usually, they both go the same way, but fetal development is a complicated and tricky thing and sometimes you can have a brain that’s shaped for one gender in a body that’s shaped for the other. This is not about belief, delusion, or sin.
Why would anybody try to claim that the the body that they can see is more right than the brain the person lives in?
I mean, I can think of some reasons, like the conceit of presuming to know the mind of god, the squick factor, or wanting someone else to be as frustrated as they are, but I don’t find those reasons compelling.
As strongly as I feel about this issue, I’m going to try to inject a touch of lightness and ask has everyone seen My Life in Pink?
Yeah, right. YOU have gay friends? I’m really a loaf of bread. The doctors say they have a cure, it’s just a massive yeast infection, but I’ve decided to pray instead. No medical treatments needed. The great loaf in the heaven bakery will help me rise.
L, how does a clearly dumb 13-year-old refusing to get better by accepting medical attention to fight cancer have to do with a completely different 8-year-old claiming he is really female who is NOT looking for medical attention?
First, why are you “shouting”? Shouting, (all caps on the internet), is typically the way that rude people with no facts or logic argue.
Do you have evidence that the child is actually developmentally delayed or mentally retarded? Or do you simply hurl around hateful insults at children any time you get frustrated? Have you considered repenting of that sin?
This is a clear misstatement that is in direct contradiction to every post in this thread. No one believes the child to be “normal.” What has been argued is that whatever trauma the child has suffered will be better ameliorated by working with the child rather than simply calling it names–such as “retarded.”
The child will believe himself/herself to be a girl, regardless and, barring evidence from an actual physical examination along with an examination of the child’s DNA to determine XY, XX, XXY, or other chromosomal condition, you have no reason to claim that the child “is” male or female. You only know that the child has, (at least), a penis without knowing any other condition. Had you actually followed up the information provided by multiple posters, you would be aware that possessing a penis is not the be-all and end-all of determining sex.
This particular clause does not contain any overt errors as it is true that the family is getting in trouble for seeking out hoaxers’ medicine while denying the child access to medicine that is known to work.
Ands you are out of line for posting direct insults at other posters in this forum.
You are entitled to express your opinions, (although it would behoove you to demonstrate a modicum of restraint), and we are entitled to wish you the same–that you might someday see the particularly horrendous ignorance and prejudice that you wield, shying away from it instead of flailing it about at innocents.
That 13 year old cannot even read because of learning disabilities. Don’t be so sure about what he does and does not know and what he can and cannot understand.
God doesn’t make mistakes. And yet, people are born with birth defects such as spina bifada, muscular distrophy, cleft palate, Downs syndrome, mental retardation, etc every single day. Why is being born transgender any different?* Or are you saying that say, diabetes or say, epilepsy (like myself) aren’t “mistakes”? :dubious:
Should one not bother to take insulin, anti-convulsants, use wheelchairs, crutches, surgery, etc?
I had a severe seizure just this weekend at my cousin’s wedding. Was that “normal?”
*And yes, I would consider it a birth defect. I don’t think anyone could say otherwise.
More likely you will one day die and succumb to the utter oblivion of death and never know how you wasted so much of your life believing in a stupid fairy story about a re-tread Babylonian storm god and his tortured son.
Your stances are based on ignorance and you seek to maintain it. What you’re feeling now should make you reconsider the childish beliefs you have, not make you angry.
On the contrary, the child is normal. She has a gender identity just like you do (although your gender identities may differ). The assumption that she’s not normal is why people think it’s reasonable to question whether it’s okay to raise a trans girl as a girl while no one ever thinks twice about raising a cis girl as a girl.
The assumption that she’s not normal (and can be described simply as “the 8 year old transsexual” instead of “the eight year old girl,” or even “the eight year old transsexual girl”) is just the assumption that normality = majority.
But by in this case, that’s what is meant, at least, statistically. It’s NOT a normal thing to have happen. That doesn’t mean it’s BAD, per se. (Perhaps a better change would be to break the assumption that abnormal = bad.)
I would like to apologize for calling the transgendered retarded. That was wrong… I was just very irritated. I would also like to apologize to those I called “sick and ignorant”… although I told I was insulting people, I’ve never seen ANYONE on this website told they were insulting someone by calling them ignorant… especially since I have been called ignorant by just about everyone responding to my posts…
Anyway. I think it is the individual human’s choice to decide if they want to live or die. I believe everyone should strive to live, but if you want to die and end your life, that is your choice. Why should the government have any right to say you can’t decide if you want to live or die? Millions of people are killing themselves with cigarettes, yet those are legal… and highly taxed… it seems like it’s okay to kill yourself as long as the government makes money from it. It’s illegal to commit suicide (or attempt it) yet the government makes money off of cigarettes, although smoking is technically a long, drawn out suicide.
If this 13 year old and his mom want to use natural herbs attempting to cure his cancer, that is their choice. I honestly believe there are so many natural remedies for all kinds of diseases and illnesses but the government suppresses those remedies because if people knew about them then they would use the natural remedies, saving billions of dollars (and lives), and modern medicine would no longer be needed. Most of, if not all, the medicines used are synthetics which were derived from natural sources. Marinol is synthetic THC used to treat AIDS and cancer patients… but why not allow them to use marijuana? Because there is no money to be made by the government if the patient uses marijuana he/she grew. Oxycodone is a synthetic derived from morphine… why not allow the patient to grow poppies and milk them? It makes no sense.
I believe the 13 year old with cancer and his parents have the right to decide what form of treatment to administer… quackery or not. It’s not like the government even cares whether this child lives or dies. What’s the difference between this situation and abortion? Why does the government care so much that this 13 year old gets cured, but not so much about the millions of babies who have been murdered before they got to see their first birthday?
There are so many things about this world and the people living in it that make no sense to me. I don’t think I’m stupid or ignorant (though most of you would beg to differ), but am I the only person on this website who feels this way? Does anyone else see my point? It’s not about the 8 year old transgendered or the 13 year old with a treatable cancer who isn’t going to the hospital… it’s about the way people perceive it. It’s all fine and dandy to believe a girl can be born a boy… but it’s considered insane for a child and his parents to want to treat his cancer with a Bible and a chia herb garden. WHY!?!
Without stepping into the quagmire that is the abortion issue (where there is a murky overlap in legal rights between mother and fetus), the answer here is: because parents are legally responsible for their children’s well-being. How is letting a child die by treating their cancer with “a Bible and a chia herb garden” any different from letting them die due to not feeding them? It’s a form of neglect - criminal neglect. The courts here have already declared it so. The government has the same interest in getting this child treated as it does in preventing all other forms of child abuse.
I’m sorry, but most children are not transsexuals. That’s not normal. It’s not necessarily bad, either - as another example, being left-handed isn’t normal either, but we don’t see it as pathological (anymore).
Being a transsexual isn’t normal. Our society doesn’t tolerate such people well, and clearly there is controversy over how to treat them. Thus, it’s ridiculous to say the child in question is normal, hence why we’re having a debate. That doesn’t mean who are transsexuals are bad or should be hidden or what have you, it wasn’t a value judgment but a statement of fact. At least, not on my part.
Funny, if I or **begbert **or **Lacunae Quell **had dared say that we’d get piled on, but I wonder if the same will happen to Broomstick? Just sayin’ is all.
Even though I fully, 100% agree with this sentiment…
Actually, as I have already pointed out in a different context, this claim is bullshit.
There is a difference between saying that a condition exists that should be addressed with compassion and the possibility of adjustments to the societal norms and even, possibly, to the body with hormones or surgery, and making a claim that an anomaly is “normal.” That is your straw man argument that should be retired from this discussion, since it is flat out wrong.
I was making my point… that it’s okay for the parents of an 8 year old tranny to let their boy become a girl, but it’s not okay for this 13 year old’s parents to treat his cancer with natural herbs…
my point is that if you’re going to allow something so absurd as to let a boy be a girl then you might as well let a victim of cancer be treated however the hell they want to be treated.
I have a question for the transgenders… Why can’t you just live as the gender you were born as? I mean… why can’t you feel like a girl and even act like a girl… but not mutate your body to match your brain? Let’s say your a transgendered male. You’ve got the mind of a female but the body of a male… why can’t you just live life as both? Do you know how many women would want to be with a man who has the mind of a female? What’s so wrong with living your life as both male and female? My problem isn’t because people are born like this… but because of what they do to change their body… and it’s not just cause you want to look like whatever sex you feel like… I’m against all plastic surgery unless if it’s for reconstructive purposes… say… if you got mauled by a polar bear.
So… why can’t you just be happy with the way you were born? Why do you have to change?
