# Is it possible to buy a lifetime supply of gasoline?

Is anybody here a farmer? (I’m not!)
They keep huge tanks of fuel (mostly diesel, I think) for tractors , etc.
I have no idea how many gallons, though.

You might be looking for something like [this](http://firstfuelbank.com/). It’s like playing the commodities game, I suppose. You can pre-buy as much fuel as you want and there’s no limit on how long you have to use it up. I don’t know if there is anything like this outside of Central Minnesota, though.

OT, but when I was a young teenager we used to drive to the next state in our 72 chevy to take advantage of the cheaper gas prices. we had a ~400 gallon “field service tank” and everytime we ran out of gas i had to jump in the bed of the truck and pump =)

Not **that** big! The tank on our farm held, I believe, around 500 gallons.

As a sidenote, why would anyone want to buy a lifetime supply of gas? Fuel prices are pretty volatile (sorry, shoot me), but prices over time tend to match inflation. It would be like buying gold, except that gold doesn’t go bad or catch fire.

Regarding the price volatility of pump gas, couldn’t it be considered a spot market for much of the petroleum industry? After all, a fair part of fuel sales have to be to fleets, which probably lock prices through long-term contracts.

Not to mention we might all be under the assumption that we will still be driving gas powered vehicles in the next 40-50 years. Me? I’m holding my breath for anti-matter powered hovermobiles.
