Well, no, they count the present era from the birth of Christ, they just believe that Christ was born in what we call 7 AD.

From here:

Its chronology differs from that of the West in that it locates the year of creation at 5493 B.C. Since it teaches that Christ was born 5500 years after creation, about seven years are added to our A.D. dates.

How these figures were arrived at is not stated in the sites I checked.

Thanks for the correct info, but then it looks like their base year is really their presumed date of creation.
