I live in Northern California and I swear I’ve seen at least seven dead skunks on the free way in the past few days. Has mating season started early this year? Can mating seasons (generally, not just skunks) vary as much as a month over the years?

I wondered that myself. It’s like cat season around here - dead skunks everywhere. I can think of at least four on my drive home, as well as several raccoons. Usually it’s one or two of one or the other.
