We seem to have an awful lot of just-joined members turning up in GD, GQ, and The Pit right now. While a few of them do display characteristics which give your average gentle poster a feeling of _deja vu_, the majority post as if they’ve been told this is a cool site and they are just wading right in. I certainly don’t want to see us lose the “new blood” which might feel it’s being “piled upon” because of unfamiliarity with board rules and board culture. But I **am** curious about the possible reasons for the sudden influx of newbies who have apparently never lurked. My guess is that the SDMB is some other website’s link of the week. Can anyone shed any light on the unexpected and exponential explosion of newbies? ---

Well, it is actually working right now. After a long period of being inordinately slow, it is actually humming along pretty good right now. That might have some effect. ---

I think Irishman has the correct explanation. I am seeing a lot of new people in Comments on Cecil’s Columns. Before I imagine many new posters were assuming that the boards were non-functional. ---
