Can I get more info about mailing things like books to the new address? Does the USPS have guidelines on this somewhere? I need to know about sizes and weights and such, if anyone can help. We don’t have a new address yet, but we’ve already decided that we’re going to make this move by checkbook. If we can keep that to a minimum that would be great.
If it is, then file me under D for Dumb!
I’ve done it several times. There was one time that I intended to give it away, but some snotty idiot at my employer’s HR insisted that I “was not allowed” to do that. Please note that this was my furniture, it hadn’t been paid by the company.
Cost to get that furniture in the first place, from IKEA near Philly: $700, paid by yours truly.
Cost to transport it to Spain: over $2000, paid by the company. Add cost to keep it in storage for four months (the time between leaving my Philly apartment and getting a new one back in Spain).
thirdwarning, I think you need some coffee. Meanwhile, USPS has a nice webpage.
thirdwarning, when you check out the USPS website, make sure that you look into shipping your books via Media Mail. It’s cheaper than Parcel Post but doesn’t take any longer for delivery.
