Maybe some (a very small “some”)of them KNOW how fucked up it is, but don’t have the balls to own it. They have to blame someone.

Where do you get this silly idea that I don’t think its possible for one candidate to be much worse than the other? I don’t think that Trump is as apocalyptically bad as some people seem to think he is. I don’t think Hillary is so forgivably flawed as some people think she is.

Your question is answered by your own statement right there.

You are trying to equivocate. You are trying to play down how much damage Trump plans to do to the country, and play up how horrible Hillary is because of what stupid people believed about her.

Your very own statements imply that you do not think that one candidate was much worse than the other. You have done nothing but defend Trump and attack Hillary since the election. In fact, should I not know better, just going on what you have said about the two of them since the election, it would be fair to say that you have implied that Hillary is the one who is much worse than Trump.

And reversing this currency manipulation would be their way of punishing us for Trump?

The currency manipulation doesn’t just make Chinese goods cheap to us. It makes American goods expensive in China. Reverse the manipulation and Chinese goods become more expensive and American goods become cheaper.

> [@](#):
>
> Just like they dumped rare earths and got us to shut down our rare earth mines, dumped steel and got us to shut down our steel foundries, they dump manufactured goods to get us to shut down our manufacturing.

They’re not why we shut down our steel factories. China is why Indonesia and Korea shut down their steel factories. We still import steel but now its from China instead of Indonesia.

> [@](#):

> If they raise prices, that encourages the US to start moving jobs either back, or to another developing country. Either way, or if we continue to get products from China at the new higher rates, it will cost more to purchase these “cheap” good that we currently take for granted.

And is THAT how they will punish us for Trump? Making us pay marginally higher prices?

> [@](#):
>
> Are you under the impression that a significant portion of iphones, armani and prada are made in the US?

What would make you think I think that we make this stuff in America? I said “cheap Chinese goods” and you said “Prada and Armani”. I said most of the Chinese stuff we get isn’t Prada or Armani and you say “well we don’t make Prada and Armani in the USA”

Do you not get that we are importing much more from China than we are exporting? Do you not get that there are other markets for Chinese goods, including the growing middle class of China itself?

And wtf does that have to do with cheap Chinese goods?

No, we don’t need China more than they need us. That is absolute unadulterated ignorant bullshit. China’s economic model doesn’t work without an American export market.

> [@](#):

I’m implying that most of the shit we buy from China is cheap clothing and cheap electronics, etc (cheap as in inexpensive).

> This is not true at all, and believing such stupid things is what gets us into trouble.

Except it is true. Most of the stuff we buy from China is not high end goods. We probably couldn’t replace Chinese electronics domestically but places like korea and could probably reconstitute their electronics manufacturing pretty quickly.

Hillary is horrible. Smart or stupid, the facts don’t change.

I think Trump was much worse than Hillary. That doesn’t mean Hillary isn’t bad.

I have been criticizing Hillary for a long time now. Losing to a living bobblehead like Trump just gave me another reason to criticize her.

I think Trump was worse than Hillary. That is why I reluctantly voted for her. But my admission that a reasonable person could see her as the greater evil does not mean that I believe this.

I think there are a lot of people on this site that think that only racists and retards could have voted for Trump and that is why we lost to begin with.

This criticism of Hillary from the left didn’t spring into existence on election night after she lost.

This criticism was there during the entire primary process and we were told to shut up because she was so fucking awesome. Now that she lost we’re supposed to shut up because its all behind us now, no need to look back at the mistakes of our past, just look forward.

Or are you talking about the part where I say that reasonable people can disagree about who is worse?

No, currency manipulation is what they would do to take advantage of us while we have Trump as an innefective leader. It is not to punish Trump, or us, it is taking advantage of our disarray.

> [@](#):
>
> The currency manipulation doesn’t just make Chinese goods cheap to us. It makes American goods expensive in China. Reverse the manipulation and Chinese goods become more expensive and American goods become cheaper.

They can manipulate it however they want. It doesn’t need to swing from one extreme to the other. One of the benefits, I suppose, of having a strong govt. Point is, they can fix it wherever they want it to be. Yeah, they may lose exports a bit to the US in volume, but it will probably be more in value. They aren’t going to be increasing their US imports by very much. What is it that you think that we make that the average Chinese consumer wants?

> [@](#):
>
> They’re not why we shut down our steel factories. China is why Indonesia and Korea shut down their steel factories. We still import steel but now its from China instead of Indonesia.

The [United States International Trade Commission](https://www.usitc.gov/press_room/news_release/2016/er0622ll621.htm) disagrees with you.

> [@](#):
>
> And is THAT how they will punish us for Trump? Making us pay marginally higher prices?

No, that is how they are going to take advantage of our stupidity for electing a complete idiot to the white house.

China doesn’t take things personally, but they do know when an opponent is weak, and have no problem taking advantage of that.

> [@](#):
>
> What would make you think I think that we make this stuff in America? I said “cheap Chinese goods” and you said “Prada and Armani”. I said most of the Chinese stuff we get isn’t Prada or Armani and you say “well we don’t make Prada and Armani in the USA”

You said, and once again, I quote you, “maybe the would stop selling us cheap clothing and electronics”, as if that was the worst thing that they could do.

You did not seem to realize that things like iphones or armani or prada were made in China. Many luxury good are made in china, or are made from chinese manufactured parts. So, unless you are actually specifically retracting your point that all we will lose is “cheap clothing and electronics” you are incredibly wrong on this.

But, you are right, we do get quite a number of cheap items from China too. Most of our clothes, and many of our electronics, quite a bit of furniture, pretty much all of our small hardware (screws, nuts, washers, that sort of thing) come from china. Losing access to those “cheap” clothes doesn’t mean we will be making them, it just means that we will be paying higher prices for everything. Losing chinese manufacturing, or having them raise their prices would raise prices on just about everything in the US.

So yeah, trump could very well be responsible for increasing the cost of living or decreasing the standard of living for the average american consumer by a pretty significant amount.

> [@](#):
>
> And wtf does that have to do with cheap Chinese goods?

Nothing, nothing at all. Because there will not be cheap chinese good for much longer. That’s my point.

> [@](#):
>
> No, we don’t need China more than they need us. That is absolute unadulterated ignorant bullshit. China’s economic model doesn’t work without an American export market.

There are 1.2 billion people in China. 7+ billion in the world. 320 million or so in the US. Yes, we have money for the moment, but China is already developing other markets around the world. They are not beholden to us and our economy. If our country tanked right now, it would hurt them, but they would get through it much better than we do. If we tank in 5-10 years, they’ll be ready.

> [@](#):
>
> I’m implying that most of the shit we buy from China is cheap clothing and cheap electronics, etc (cheap as in inexpensive).

And soon, everything we get from china will not be cheap as in inexpensive, it will be expensive, as in expensive.

> [@](#):
>
> Except it is true. Most of the stuff we buy from China is not high end goods. We probably couldn’t replace Chinese electronics domestically but places like korea and could probably reconstitute their electronics manufacturing pretty quickly.

We buy plenty of high en goods from china. We also buy quite a bit of raw materiel to manufacturer goods from china. We also buy quite a bit of hardware to put those raw materials together from china.

Unless you are conscientious about it, and specifically avoid such good, (and pay a premium for the privilege), at least half of what you buy on an everyday basis had something to do with china, even if the final assembly didn’t take place there.

A trade war with China will not go well for the average american consumer. Why do you think otherwise?

You keep saying that we should wit to see what he actually does in office before we judge him, rather than judging him based on what he said he would do when he was in office.

I will admit that an ignorant or a stupid person could see her as the greater evil. But I do not agree that a well informed and reasonable person would come to that conclusion. Every reason I heard people harping about reasons why she was evil were either completely fabricated, or massively blown out of proportion.

The only people who could have felt that way are single issue voters, and I think that most of them (on both sides) are more of a problem to our country than a benefit.

Nah, you do have your racists and “retards”, but you also have your single issue voters and the gullible. In your insistence that we are simplifying things too much, you are simplifying things too much.

Anyone that voted for trump that did not do so because they are terrified of people killing babies, taking their guns, or calling them out on their bigotry did so because they believed the lies of trump and the fake news.

What ties?

AFAICT, Russia hacked the emails of the DNC and exposed the bias within the DNC.

Then they hacked the emails of a Democratic operative at a major media outlet that passed debate questions to Hillary.

Which of those were secrets that should have been kept hidden?

How does that make him Putin’s bitch?

A large part of his campaign was based on stoking xenophobia (and as a minority, I have trouble voting for racists).

He is much less prepared for public office than Hillary, he is almost wholly unprepared.

He is crass and undiplomatic.

He will almost certainly do something deeply embarrassing over the next 4 years.

But I don’t think he will start WWIII or sell America to the Russians or create muslim concentration camps.

So why did you become part of the problem, if you sincerely thought he was worse? You did your fucking best to convince people that Hillary was Horrible, and you(and others like you who spent most of their time bashing Clinton) share a bit of the blame for what happened.
