Actually, those examples show just the opposite.
Well, at the risk of continuing a dying topic… how can you culturally compare the examples I listed above? Manhattan vs. Richmond. A mere 5 hour drive away.
Los Angeles vs. Orange County. 45 mins away, liberal haven versus conservative stronghold. Not to mention driving a few hours to Colorado, or the Dakotas, or Texas.
There are common elements, as there are between any cultures. But other than Starbucks and the Gap, I don’t think there’s much fear of one of those cities becoming the other.
Look at it in historical perspective. The differences between English-speaking regional cultures in North America have been steadily eroding for at least 40 years now.

Who is to say that there would be a singluar leader? Perhaps there would be a senate with thousands of people and perhaps 5 leaders.
Somehow, despite his faults, I don’t see George W leading a regime change on Mars.
