Maybe he’s feeling a pinch. Of the five houses two are for sale, one was just sold, and the other two I guess he’s decided to keep. I guess having just two mansions instead of five is his idea of a smaller lifestyle. ---

He’s not being the least bit hypocritical. He’s not taking a moral position that Americans should consume less for the public good, he’s observing that America is not dominating the global marketplace the way it used to, and that Americans should expect increasing competition and lower wage growth, and reduce their expectations accordingly, or they (well, we) will be dissatisfied and frustrated all the time. Greene already has a pile of money, and spending money he already has on a lifestyle he can easily afford is not at all contrary to his expressed views.
