The “almost” part is enough to mean he’s going to hell for a large number of Christians. And he’s running against a Christian. So I think that’s at best a wash, and at worst a count against him. I’m not entirely sure that being White is helpful anymore, either. There are probably as many counter-racists as there are racists, if not more. What Romney has going for him is that he is not the incumbant, he’s Republican: the party that people think is Christian, he has a lot of money and experience handling it, and he’s willing to pretend to be conservative to win the election. Not his Mormonism and race. ---

I’m not sure where this is coming from. Nate Silver has Obama making slow but steady gains, every day, in all areas: probable electoral college votes, the probability of winning the election, and even in the popular vote where Obama is still over 50% (although there is still under a 2 point spread). This has been going on since the second debate (and follows a steep drop in Obama’s polling after the first debate). With a week to go and a major natural disaster playing out, I suppose anything can happen. Silver says that there is going to be less polling going on over the next few days due to the hurricane.
