I’ve moderated people for posts like that when I felt they were irrelevant or pointless.

I don’t think the thread under discussion was ever linked to, but [it was this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=14411340). It seems to me that **tomndebb** addressed this in the thread anyway:
