Have you asked your friends wife how she felt about it? I do think you did a good job of smoothing out the tension, but I still wonder if your friend was over-reacting. It sounds like YFW tried to remove herself from the area because her husband was getting pissed, not her. Ok let me just clear things up here. Flirting Man did not know the woman he was flirting with was his wifes boss until a while after the deed was done. My friend the boss thought the kid knew the woman he was flirting with. The boss had no idea at the time that the kid didn’t know she was. So it’s like a double blind assumption kind of mishap. Boss assumed because his wife came into his work quite often with lunch, that the kid in question must have known she was his wife. The kid in question only saw the boss’ wife come into the work place, he did not know she was his boss’ wife (they work on opposite sides of the floor). Don’t forget either, after everyone left the _other_ people at the party who saw what was going on informed the kid what he was doing, making two days of agony I bet for the kid, until monday morning. And after the night was over we (my wife, my friend ‘the boss’ and his wife) all sat around and had a good drink and laugh over the whole thing. Wow I hope the puzzel pieces fit after that… ---

I can’t understand why the boss didn’t simply plop down next to them on and say, “I see you’ve met my lovely wife.” Or walked up to her and said, “Can I get you anything sweetie?” It would have taken care of the situation immediately and in a non-embarrassing way for all involved. Your friend handled it poorly, his wife very much did (we ALL know how to work in the fact that we’re attached) but you difused the situation well. I think your friend needs to work on his temper AND his management skills. ---
