I figured, since he knew so much about evolution and biology–enough to make a judgment about its scientific merits–he would surely be able to give a creationist explanation for some facts that are taken to support evolution. But by coincidence I happen to be reading a book about the reigh of England’s Queen Mary I (Bloody Mary), and the burning of heretics (if you were Catholic), also known as martyrs (if you were Protestant). The first one, before they’d really gotten the whole “burning people at the stake” down to a science, they piled green (undried) wood around the guy on a rainy day, and he suffered so much he screamed for the crowd to pile the wood higher about him, to hasten his death. When two bishops, Ridley and Latimer, were burned together for their Protestant beliefs, Latimer famously said, “Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle, by God’s grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out!” Latimer died quickly from smoke inhalation but Ridley suffered such agonies that even his executioners were sickened. As the burnings continued, the families of the condemned would bribe the executioners to hang bags of gunpowder around the neck of the person at the stake, in the hopes his or her head would be blown off before the full suffering of being burned to death could be experienced. So I think we can safely say the shiny hope of no pain at the stake is complete BS. It doesn’t seem to me to be unreasonable to expect him to defend what he says, just like everyone else in Great Debates. Seems like a lot of it, like the above, is demonstrably false. ---

But, as to your more general point, yeah, being burned at the stake hurts, and **lekatt** ’s views tend not to be supported by evidence. ---

We can solicit volunteers for a clinical trial\* evaluating spirit liberation achieved through various punishments - being burned at the stake, broken on the wheel or required to engage **lekatt** in a prolonged debate. \*I suspect the “double-blind” aspect of this experiment will be a challenge to implement. Especially the part about debating **lekatt**. Participants are always going to know they are debating **lekatt**. No placebo poster can simulate the real thing. ---

Despite all **Lekatt** ’s annoying quirks, I admit I enjoyed his participation in a [recent thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9496384&postcount=167) where **kanicbird** ended up stating that **Lekatt** spewed “lies from the pit of hell” and that **kanicbird** rebuked and came “against that enemy and spirit of the antichrist that dwells within” **lekatt**. That’s the closest I’ve ever been to a real exorcism attempt! ---

I don’t think he’s actually either. His pattern of reaction in debates is quite distinctive and consistent. Build up an argument until the chorus of disagreement becomes too loud, then play the martyr card, avoiding the necessity of answering any questions - then flounce out of the thread, promising never to return (often more than once per thread) I think this is neither stupidity or trolling - I think there’s some sort of pathology driving it. ---

From what I’ve seen from **lekatt** and his postings around here, he seems to have suffered, or gone through, some life altering event, and distorting his philosophy on the afterlife so much so, that he seems to be building some crazy Jenga tower of delusions to try and shadow the fear he has of death, and the transition leading up to it. I could be way off base, but that’s just what I’ve come to assume. Anyone else, in the real world, that was spewing forth such easily dismissed BS as **lekatt** , I would think the same thing, or that they might need their meds adjusted. Why he hangs around here, I’m not sure. What’s sad is that every time we pull another block from his Tower of Ignorance, he seems to smugly suggest we’re not open enough to see the “truth”, or he’ll beat around the bush until he goes away entirely.
