# Is Lucafilm considered an independent production company?

Are the Star Wars films considered “independent” films due to the fact that Lucas funds them from his own pocket, as well as writing and directing them?

Why not? The term “independent film” is almost entirely meaningless now, let shove Lucas under the tent, too.
