Is Mapquest on crack?

Heh, MapQuest…

There’s a bookstore I wanted to go to which was relatively near my house. Unfortunately, it was in the mess of “rat’s nest” streets and I wanted to see at least a general plan.

Mapquest told me to turn left out of my driveway, turn onto Harper, turn down about 6 little streets, and “now you’ll be on Mack Ave.”

Y’know, as opposed to if I turn RIGHT out of my driveway and head straight down to Mack Ave. :smack:

Oh, good! It’s not just me, then. I found out Mapquest has had some sort of substance abuse problem three years ago.

We had just moved to our present house, and weren’t familiar with many of the roads out here. Hey, I said. Let’s visit Mapquest and see how to get from here to (wherever).

My husband and I put in our street address and my friend’s address who lives about five miles from us. We’d never been there (at the time) and this was just too cool.

Except… when it told us (correctly) to turn right out of our driveway, then left (incorrectly) to get to the freeway. It insisted for us to turn left to get to Hwy 78. Hmmm…turning left takes you down a twisting road into a subdivision, and then it dead ends. So where’d the freeway go? Huh?

To make it even sillier, Mapquest was determined for us to get on the freeway and make a five mile jaunt into a thirteen mile quest. There is no need whatsoever to hop onto I-59 to get to this person’s house.

I use Expedia now, and it’s not quite as screwed up as Mapquest. At least it knows for me to turn right to get out of my own neighborhood.

Oh I love its little intro trips. When I used to live in New Orleans, no matter where I was going, it would always try and convince me to turn right coming out of my house, turn right on another street, turn right on ANOTHER street, then get on the major street I wanted to get to. All the way around my block…

Rather than just pulling out of the driveway and going right towards said major street.

Does anyone else find those Aerial Photos available on Mapquest just a bit creepy???

It just appears as though the one of my house is exceptionally close.

I showed my mother once and asked her to run outside and stand in the middle of the yard so I could take her picture.

Wow… I’ve always had good luck with Mapquest. Just for the heck of it, I must Mapquested (see, I use Mapquest so much that I use the name as a verb) the route from my house to my work and it’s spot on. The exact route I take every day, the exact right street names, the time and miles look spot on.

The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t seem to map all the little details of the suburbs. Like here, for my neighborhood, Mapquest offers this notation: “There are 0.42 miles between your starting location and the beginning of your driving directions. Use maps to get from your starting location to the beginning of your route.” So maybe sometimes I get a little frustrated when I’m looking for a person’s house, but it always leads me right to places of business.

So, yeah, it’s not perfect, but, good grief, I’ve never experienced anything quite as awful as the rest of you have.
