I started this thread not to ask an opinion about what I should do about my ex’s behavior in lieu of speaking to him. I started this thread to gain insight onto what a guy might think after a breakup, and after gaining more understanding of where he is coming from, I was going to speak to him about the situation.

So, for everyone who actually offered insight and opinions related to the actual question I was asking, thank you very much. He and I had a lenghty discussion about our situation; our friendship, our past relationship, our responsibilities with the cat, and in general, the way we both feel about life right now. Things are back to normal again, or at least as normal as we can both make it out to be.

This whole thing is odd, but I am with **Ellen Cherry** --this is a cat we are talking about, not a child.

No doubt the cat is fond of the OP. No-one (except OP’s mother) is advocating putting the cat down or abandoning it. But seriously, all this sturm and drang for a cat? I think the cat is a substitute for other, bigger issues that these two aren’t able to discuss.
I believe in nice, clean breaks. No reason you can’t be friends, eventually, but for this time–not so much.

Or we could just assume that she’s deceiving us and continue to make snarky remarks and insinuations.
I don’t assume she’s attempting to deceive, but I do wonder at some of the inconsistencies. Normally, I wouldn’t remember. But I was involved in the original kitten thread and it was a topic that tends to stick in my head.
No, there was a kitten at some point, I just linked to the wrong thread. See [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=387464) one.
Oh, I see. Well, I obviously surmised in error, then.
