Is my kitten a Maine Coon Cat?

He/She is referring to a Jane’s Addiction song, on the Kettlewhistle album, called My Cat is Maceo. Great song. In fact, I’ve been humming it myself since I read your post. Next time I adopt another cat, I will seriously consider naming it Maceo, if that fits the cat, of course.

Nothing relevant to add here. I love Maine Coons, but already have a house full of cats and dogs…

You’re kidding! I had no idea there was a song called My Cat is Maceo. Now I feel like a complete idiot. I was whooshed bigtime. Bre’r Lappin, I hope you can forgive me for biting your head off for absolutely no reason.

How is the “sorry” involved in the song?

Oh sure, crush my dreams why doncha? (Note:  )

I’ve wanted an ocicat ever since I first saw one, but I’m not ever going to get one unless a stray adopts me or I find one at a shelter. And that won’t happen for a while because I already have two cats, the mini-Maine Coon and Mr. I’m Going to Steal Your Pizza Rolls While You Type over here. I can dream though.

(Maybe one day I’ll find a leopard-spotted Bengal at a shelter! And maybe I will see Pink Floyd’s flying pig outside my window, too. I can dream.)

Turkish Angoras and Turkish Vans LOVE water. And they’re extremely friendly, too. I have a cat who I’m convinced is part Turkish Angora - he’s all black, long-haired, has the same fine bone structure as an Angora, and he’s got the lovable personality. Of course, I think he’s the most beautiful boy in the world, but I’m biased:D . But it’s scary how many traits of the Angora he has - and he LOVES to get into the bathtub. I think he may have a TINY bit of Maine Coon in him, but not much.

Oscar

This is him - he’s also very prissy which makes me think that if he were human, he’d be a gay man in the Village.

Ava

It’s quite alright. I sort of figured that any cat named Maceo couldn’t have received that name by coincidence.

The “sorry” was just for the random reference that had nothing to do with maine coons.

Mom has his twin, Toby.

Toby
(ignore the weird light flash on his fur, please - I’m a bad photographer. He is in fact black, with a very few white hairs.)

Same fur (except ours might be a slight bit longer and finer - heck to keep groomed!), same delicate bones, same ‘prissy’ walk and body language - thinks he’s too good for the world. He might be right  He doesn’t have a preference for water, but it doesn’t seem to bother him at all (unless we’re bathing him. Darn Cat. )

RickJay - Benji was a very beautiful cat - unfortunately I only have one (poor) picture of him up at the moment, and it’s one near the end of his life. I don’t think he really had purebred anything in him, just a little bit of everything - and a whole lotta attitude.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back here - isn’t it annoying how Real Life insists on interfering with SDMB time?

Anyway, Rubystreak (and other Maine Coon lovers), you might like to check out the Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association for more info about this breed. The site has general info, articles, links to breeders - lots of stuff.

Also, Ruby, if you’re interested in learning more about wild/big cats, sanctuaries, breeders, and private ownership, you can go here and join the felines-l list. Many sanctuaries/rescues and private owners are on the list, and you can learn some amazing things, especially about what life is really like when you have a bobcat or a serval as a house pet! I’m on the list but haven’t been reading or posting for quite a while because of that darned Real Life that limits my time.

And for even more info, check out the links page at the FCC site - lots of links, many of them to websites of members of felines-l.

whiterabbit, are you talking about Larry in Live Oaks, Fl? He’s a major part of Bengal Rescue in the southeast US, and a really nice guy. He rescued an entire cattery not long ago from a “backyard breeder” and really had his hands full. I had to take a break from breeding and drop out of rescue for a while because of things going on here, so I’m not up-to-date on what has been happening since December.

Spazcat, there are Bengals in rescue all of the time - if you’d like to keep an eye out for one in your area, or even let it be known that you’re interested, you can join the Bengal Rescue list over at Yahoo. There may be an Ocicat Rescue of some sort, too, although they’re actually rarer than Bengals so I’m not sure they have much need of a rescue group. An internet search might turn one up, though.

Purrs and head butts, cat lovers!

My old cat, (my old roommate has it, it’s alive and well not dead:D), was a Maine coon, and it was the coolest cat I’ve ever seen. You could cradle him lika baby, and then put him down on the floor on his back like he was still being cradled. Nothing more to add, I just wanted to brag.
