Not my favorite Christmas song, old or new(ish), not by a long shot. But I don’t particularly mind it. ---

5 years later and I am glad, nay, _thrilled_ to report that I have avoided this song for this entire season! Also, I have grown fond of the theory that this isn’t really a Christmas song, but an interrupted Satanic ritual: The mood is right The spirit’s up We’re here tonight And that’s enough (grandma enters the room) SIMPLY HAVING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME! McCartney and Lennon are both legendary songwriters who have made significant contributions to the world of music. McCartney wrote many great songs, most of them upbeat, some overly sweet. Lennon wrote many great songs too, most of them gritty, some overly caustic. I liken McCartney to Mozart, a born musical prodigy and gifted songwriter, who wrote mostly ornate, beautiful compositions. On the other hand, I liken Lennon to Beethoven, a self-made virtuoso and gifted songwriter, who wrote raw, emotional, dramatic compositions. I love Mozart, but prefer Beethoven. _Wonderful Christmastime_ is one of McCartney’s overly sweet clunkers. ---

Mull of Kintyre was number 1 in the UK charts for 9 weeks around christmas 1977. That really was dreck. But not a ‘christmas’ song per se. ---

I don’t know who this 2018 pulykamell is, but “Wonderful Christmastime” is my most hated Xmas song ever now. I have stopped drinking since November 2020, so perhaps that has something to do with it. 🙂 Seriously, I used to like this song? Huh? ---
