Playing to the stupidity and bigotry in the populace is something that the republicans have been trying to do for generations, but it took Trump’s experience with manipulating reality TV watchers to demonstrate how it’s _really_ done. (Full disclosure - I think Trump was smarter during his campaign than he is now. He’s visibly degrading over time. Plus campaigning is closer to his skillset than governing anyway.) Now that the proper method for manipulating the uneducated ignorants has emerged, unscrupulous politicians are enthusiastically following suit. Clinton, on the other hand, is a democrat. Even if she’d wanted to, and known how effective it was, she couldn’t possibly have employed this tactic without alienating her base. Plus the tactics she used instead were basically as effective at garnering support for anyway - possibly moreso if the accounts of russian interference hold true. ---
